Russia and Iran: Strengthening Bilateral Ties

A meeting took place today between Dmitry Stasyulis, President of IOEC, and Ramin Erfan, Adviser to the President of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and Representative of the Vice President of Iran for Science and Technology in the Russian Federation. Also participating was Alexander Biryukov, Vice President of IOEC for cooperation with African countries.

🤝 The parties agreed to establish a Committee on the Development of Russian-Iranian Relations based at the Eurasian International Business Centre of IOEC. Mr Erfan expressed his readiness to take an active role in the project. Experts from the Russian Foreign Ministry are also expected to join the initiative.

Mr Erfan also confirmed Iran's participation in the World Forum 'New Era – New Ways' scheduled for August 2025. The main topics include economy, entrepreneurship, and logistics, including development of the 'North–South' transport corridor.
"Iran is a strategic partner of Russia. Our relations are based on mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and equitable cooperation. Moscow and Tehran are cooperating not only in the fields of security and defence industry but are also implementing joint projects in transport, energy, and investment. IOEC is already serving as a key driver in these sectors, enabling direct interaction between market participants in both countries," explained IOEC President Dmitry Stasyulis.
📈 Dynamics of rapprochement in 2025:
🔺 January – Presidents Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, setting the framework for cooperation in economy, security, energy, and technology;
🔺 May – The Free Trade Area Agreement between Iran and the EAEU entered into force. The average Iranian import tariff was reduced from 16.7% to 5.2%, with some product categories seeing zero duties.
